Lufthansa Group said on 23 October 2026 that it is renaming its Green Fare to Impact Fare to reflect new requirements for environmental communication. The new name emphasises passengers’ contribution to sustainability measures, the group said in its announcement.
Lufthansa Group says the Impact Fare serves corporate as well as private customers and that its new name reflects environmental-communication rules; ESG News notes that the rename follows an EU directive targeting misleading green claims. Lufthansa says each booking prompts it to deploy an additional amount of SAF in its flight operations within six months of departure. Lufthansa Group says passengers also contribute to selected projects outside its value chain that aim to avoid or remove CO₂.
For flights within Europe, Lufthansa bases the additional SAF volume on 20% of estimated flight-related CO₂ emissions and the climate-project contribution on the remaining 80%. Lufthansa Group says the respective proportions on intercontinental routes are 10% and 90%. Lufthansa Group says the fare is available in all travel classes.
Lufthansa Group says it introduced the Green Fare in 2023 and that more than five million passengers have booked it. Lufthansa Group says Impact Fare passengers receive additional Miles and Points, while rebooking options vary by booking class and destination.
