NGEN says it has commissioned an 85 MW / 170 MWh battery in Wagenham, Upper Austria. The facility is already operating in the ancillary services market, according to the company’s Wagenham announcement. NGEN says it has commissioned the Wagenham battery and that it is operating in the ancillary services market.

NGEN says the battery is designed to store energy and provide flexible power when wind and solar generation fluctuate. It says storage at this location can also ease grid congestion and support cross-border power flows. NGEN says NGEN Austria began developing the project in 2023.

Energieleben reported that the Wagenham battery is integrated into NGEN’s energy platform. Energieleben says the platform monitors the facility and assesses market conditions and grid requirements to determine when to charge or discharge it. The stated aim is to draw on both electricity trading and grid-service revenue.

In its description of its battery business, NGEN says it can charge storage when electricity is cheaper and use or sell the energy when it has more value. NGEN says its software and trading team manage battery trading for customers.
